League format : Belgium : First Division 2026/2027
Starting with the 2026-27 season, the Belgian Pro League will abandon the playoff system that has been in place since 2009 and return to a traditional league format. The top division will expand from 16 to 18 clubs, with each team playing 34 matches in a home-and-away round-robin schedule. The final league standings after 34 rounds will determine the champion, European qualification, and relegation.
The bottom two clubs will be relegated directly to the Challenger Pro League, while the top teams from the Challenger Pro League will earn promotion. The new format eliminates both the championship and relegation playoffs, creating a simpler and more straightforward competition structure.
